BOSTOWN MUSIC FESTIVAL (TBA) – Uniting Our City for the Love of Music!
The BOSTOWN MUSIC FESTIVAL, formally the Beantown Jazz Festival, will continue the tradition established by the annual music-centered celebration drawing thousands of neighbors, friends, and visitors, for nearly 20 years.
The event has been selected to be a featured activity as part of the Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce’s Fierce Urgency of Now Festival – A five-day series of events hosted by local businesses and organizations geared at highlighting the experiences, challenges, and opportunities for young professionals of color in our city with the ultimate goal of creating community.
The BOSTOWN MUSIC FESTIVAL aims to unite our neighbors, customers, and artists for an annual end of summer celebration that coincides with the anniversary and renaissance of Darryl’s Corner Bar and Kitchen, under the ownership of Nia Grace. The event is an extension of our regular offerings for our Roxbury and South End neighbors, people of color, and young professionals in an open air space inclusive of local vendors, live music, and comfort fare. The event is free and open to the public with the expressed intent of building community using food, music, and arts as the connecting fiber.
The BOSTOWN MUSIC FESTIVAL is scheduled to take place on Saturday, September 7, 2019, 11am – 6pm. The event will be hosted in the historic South End on Columbus Avenue, between Douglass Park and Massachusetts Avenue. BOSTOWN MUSIC FESTIVAL activities will include the Friends, Food & Music Main Stage featuring the talent of 10 local bands; a Kids Corner with treats and performances; an Art Walk Gallery featuring the designs of acclaimed painters, sculptors, and illustrators; Picture This! keepsake tent with caricaturists, instant photos, and video snap chats; Small Business Marketplace featuring the crafts and products of local vendors; and a BOSTOWN Cares tent highlighting the work and services of our two community excellence partners.
