A world class music education initiative in the Roxbury neighborhood of Boston. We are guided by the belief that an intensive music education can have transformative effects on both the individual and society.
Tackling the cycle of Poverty and Youth Violence
The long term vision is the creation of a local youth orchestra comprised of Roxbury residents whose most successful members move on to participate in a regional and ultimately a national Symphony Orchestra. In this way, The Roxbury Youth Orchestra will begin to democratize access to classical music while tackling economic and raced based educational disparities. It will be this access to a world class education that will begin to dismantle the cycle of generational poverty and will help to ameliorate the rising culture of youth violence in Boston.
